Featuring a traditional Japanese Chashitsu tea house, this beautiful space can host up to 150 guests for special events and boasts an elegant ambience surrounded by graceful bamboo gates and meticulously arranged pebbles. It is located in the heart of Seattle’s Chinatown/International District in Uwajimaya’s former store location at 519 Sixth Avenue South.
“This is the only space featuring an authentic tea house in the greater Seattle area,” stated Tomio Moriguchi, The North American Post (NAP) newspaper’s publisher/owner. The tea house is on loan from the Eastside Nihon Matsuri Association.
Moriguchi notes: “We can host cultural events, fundraisers, and receptions. We hope the public will consider this facility for their upcoming holiday functions.”
The space will soon feature tatami mats with low Japanese-style tables where guests can enjoy coffee, green tea, and sweets. The tea house’s name ‘Nagomi’, translated from Japanese, means “peace” and “Japanese culture and tradition.”
The NAP (‘Hokubei Hochi’ in Japanese) is the only weekly community newspaper in the Pacific Northwest publishing in both English and Japanese. (www.napost.com)
The NAP also announces a Fall Special for new subscribers that includes 50 free business cards or a $10 Uwajimaya gift certificate. Subscribers will also receive discounts to events held at the tea house facility. Subscriptions are $48 for one year and $85 for a two-year subscription. Business cards can be ordered that include Japanese translation and can be done with same-day delivery.
