A stylist who knows your look can really make you shine. For a great cut at a nice price, take an extra few minutes to go to South Park and get to know Carmen Munoz of Primavera Beauty.
“Even if I were not to get paid,” says Carmen as she snips, “I would still cut hair, because I love it.” She’s been a stylist in South Park for more than 12 years. “I like that people in the neighborhood know me as an artist,” she says with a smile.
Some clients have been coming to see Carmen at 8520 14th Avenue South since they were kids, and many visit from as far away as Bellevue and Marysville. “I get all kinds of customers,” she explains, “they get to know my work and they keep coming back.” Carmen does everything hair including cuts, colors, highlights, perms, eyebrow sculpting, and beard and mustache trimming. Carmen understands busy schedules because she works a second job. That’s why Primavera is flexible with both walk-ins and appointments starting at 1pm Tuesday through Sunday. And if you want two dollars off your next cut, visit Primavera Beauty’s feature in catchtheculture.com/business/haircut.
Seattle loves its dogs.
Meet two such Seattleites: Bill “jack-of-all-trades” Owens, and his canine helper Miss Honey Bear. In 2009 these South Park residents opened Dog’s Outdoor Gear (D.O.G.) at 8526 14th Avenue South to meet the needs of neighbors and their pets. Bill runs the shop, but it’s Honey who runs the show. D.O.G.’s paw-picked selection includes everything from natural foods to sleeping bags to hiking packs.
Bill started his business by filling his big, blue bus with dog merchandise, driving around, and selling directly to folks at local parks. In need of a permanent (and local) business solution, Bill opened the D.O.G. shop near the South Park Marina. But why outdoor gear? Bill is an Eagle Scout and a US Navy veteran. He’s been a firefighter, computer operator, customer service rep, cruise ship greeter, and wooden boat skipper. Bill is ready to do anything and so is his dog. Come check out D.O.G. from 11am to 6pm Monday – Saturday at 8526 14th Avenue South in South Park.
