Local Seattle farmers markets have been receiving a lot of attention from around the nation as having high quality produce, a diversity of goods, and great accessibility. The Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance (NFMA) is one organization in charge of various Seattle neighborhood farmers markets, including the University District, West Seattle, Broadway, Columbia City, Phinney, Lake City, and Magnolia farmers markets.
NFMA is sponsoring the upcoming event: “In Defense of Food: The Omnivore’s Solution,” at the Benroya Hall on January 15, 2011. Michael Pollan and four of Seattle’s award winning culinary divas will talk mainly about “nutritionism” – the fact that the American diet is responsible for an epidemic of chronic diseases. Proceeds from the event will benefit the NFMA.
Find out more about the January 15 event at Benroya Hall’s website.
Also this weekend at the University District, West Seattle, and Broadway Farmers Markets you will find:
- Holiday baked goods
- Standing rib roasts and boneless hams
- Frozen cherries and roasted peppers
- Hooting Owl granola – University District only
- Whole frozen ducks – University District and West Seattle only
Please visit the NFMA website and Facebook page for more information on how to support the alliance to keep the farmers markets operating, and for hours and locations.
