The first Street-Food Vending Workshop on October 27th successfully gave participants an opportunity to learn how to start and operate a thriving street-food business. Over 60 people attended, and the workshop fostered positive interaction between City staff and participants. Roz Edison, owner of Marination Mobile, captivated the audience, and many attendees expressed interest in the services of Mercy Corps NW and Washington C.A.S.H.
The Office of Economic Development (OED) continues to develop the Seattle Street-Food growseattle web portal — a one-stop shop for interested mobile food operators to better understand the mobile food permitting process. OED has added a Seattle Street-Food Checklist which operators can print out to use while obtaining the necessary permits. Translations of the checklist into Vietnamese, Spanish, and Somali will be distributed via OEDs community-based partners soon.
OED, along with Department of Transportation (SDOT), Department of Planning and Development (DPD), the Fire Marshal’s Office, and in partnership with Washington C.A.S.H. and Mercy Corps NW is hosting the second mobile food training (in Spanish) with guest speaker Roz Edison, owner of Marination Mobile.
The workshop is FREE! Successful street-food business owners will be on hand to speak about their experiences, best practices, challenges, and perspectives on how the new street-food ordinance will energize street-food vending in Seattle.
City and County departments will give an overview of the new regulatory changes, as well as introduce the needed documentation required during the permitting process. For those interested in starting or growing a small business, Washington C.A.S.H. and Mercy Corps NW will introduce available business training workshops, loans, and technical assistance.
