Bullitt Foundation’s ‘green’ office building gets key permit from city

The environment-oriented Bullitt Foundation has proposed constructing a pioneering “living building” at 15th Avenue and East Madison Street. Called the Cascadia Center for Sustainable Design and Construction, it would generate as much power as it consumes and rely almost exclusively on rain that falls on its roof for water. The Office of Economic Development allocated $11.5 million in Recovery Zone Facility Bonds as part of the financing for the project.
Bellevue College awarded $145,000 SkillUp Washington grant for student success

This grant will help low-income working adults and disadvantaged youth succeed in the college’s Operating System Support Specialist training program. “Many of these students would not be able to pursue education at all without the additional support provided by SkillUp Washington,” said Molsen, associate dean of workforce education.
Gregoire announces $1 billion in savings to benefit businesses and employees

Governor Gregoire expects businesses to save more than $300 million in unemployment-insurance taxes this year and another $50 million over the next six years under a set of proposed job-creation bills. She said the proposed changes to the formula would result in a lower tax bill for about 90 percent of employers in the state.
