The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce member Amazon.com has joined with other Chamber members, including sponsors Starbucks and Microsoft, to support the Family 4th at Lake Union, a community-wide celebration involving free family activities, great food and a nationally acclaimed fireworks show.
Other chamber members involved in providing additional support for the event include Argosy Cruises, Courtyard by Marriott, Group Health, Perkins Coie, The Pyramid Breweries & Alehouse, Snoqualmie Tribe, and Virginia Mason Team Medicine.
“Celebrations like the Family 4th are important to the fabric of our community. Particularly around the Independence Day holiday, we can all come together to recognize our common bonds, no matter where we are from or what we do. The Chamber is grateful to its many member companies that underwrite this great community event,” said Maud Daudon, President and CEO of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
“As a member of the South Lake Union neighborhood, we’re delighted to be supporting the Family 4th at Lake Union, which is taking place right in our backyard,” said John Schoettler, Director of Global Real Estate and Facilities at Amazon.com. “We look forward to joining the Seattle community to enjoy this year’s festivities.”
As part of the event’s community-wide appeal, the Family 4th’s non-profit producer One Reel has collaborated with The Center for Wooden Boats and future South Lake Union resident, the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI), to create a more cohesive celebration around the entirety of the lake. For the Wooden Boat Festival, One Reel is programming the new Microsoft Stage in Lake Union Park, featuring Seattle band Hey Marseilles and other local gems, and is also producing the Cheshiahud Challenge—a 6-mile, 15-question walking history trivia tour around Lake Union, designed by MOHAI. Meanwhile, the Family 4th activities in Gas Works Park include beer garden trivia, field games, and inflatable rides for the kids, a dunk tank, and live performances by Seattle’s Pickwick and other soul and funk acts on the Starbucks stage. Patrons are encouraged to take advantage of the free fun in both parks by walking or biking around the Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop during the day.
“One Reel envisions the next iteration of Seattle’s Independence Day celebration, where we gather all around Lake Union, exploring our unique lakeside neighborhoods,” said One Reel Executive Director Jon Stone. “We watch with awe the transformation occurring in South Lake Union, and are absolutely thrilled that the neighborhood’s anchor resident is supporting this vision.”
The Independence Day festivities will culminate in a spectacular fireworks show over Lake Union. The following day, Family 4th Presenting Sponsor Starbucks will once again bring the community together to host the third annual 5th of July Lake Union Cleanup.
