City of Seattle customers can now pay utility bills and taxes, purchase pet licenses, get and renew a business license, and obtain information about and referrals to city services at a new customer service center located in the main lobby on the fourth floor of the Seattle Municipal Tower (SMT), 700 Fifth Ave. The customer service center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Considered a pilot project, Seattle officials will track the utilization of the center through the end of this year to determine if it makes sense to continue offering this service in 2014.
Seattle officials expect that this location will offer better customer service to city of Seattle constituents because so much of the business they come downtown to transact is housed in SMT. Rather than having to travel to different floors within the high-rise, customers can conduct basic business in the street-level lobby. The new customer service center is located in the recently vacated KeyBank space.
One window will offer basic city services – such as information about and referral to city services; wayfinding; utilities payments; pet licenses; business licenses; and tax payments.
Another window will be staffed by an employee from outside credit collections vendor NCO (Nieland, Cromwell & Oakes) Financial Systems, taking customer account payments for government debt owed to the city, and Pierce and King counties.
