There is a new Seattle mini-ferry linking South Lake Union with the University District. The mini-ferry was launched three weeks ago by the same people who bring you the Sunday Ice Cream Cruise ($11 adults) out of Lake Union Park. The new ferry is an excellent addition to the city’s transit options. Passengers can go back and forth from the UW dock at the foot of Brooklyn Street (near the Agua Verde kayak launch), every hour and the pier at South Lake Union Park every half hour.
UW departures: Sunday – Thursday, every hour, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday & Saturday, every hour, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
S. Lake Union Park Departures: Sunday – Thursday, every half hour, 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Friday & Saturday, every half hour, 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
The cost is $5, cash or check; and assuming it isn’t raining, it’s faster than biking, walking, taking the #30 or driving car through bad traffic. The Ferry can take up to 14 passengers (and two bikes). Plans are underway to open another route linking South Lake Union with the landing just northwest of the Fremont bridge.
