The seasonal Magnolia Farmers Market has been bringing local farmers to the neighborhood since 2003, and the community has recently rallied to keep it going by helping to launch a whole new look for the 2011 season. The Magnolia market has been relocated to West McGraw and 33rd Ave West and will kick off on opening day, June 18, with some great events.
Opening Day Celebrations include live music in the market, and free cooking demos and wine tasting sponsored by Dish It Up. Nationally acclaimed Chef Tamara Murphy will be at Dish It Up at 11 am to give market shoppers delicious ideas for cooking with local, farm-fresh, seasonal ingredients. She will demonstrate how she prepares simple but stunning dishes using what’s available now at the farmers market.
The “Meet the Winemaker” event will feature Walter Dacon Winery and is also free in celebration of the farmers market’s opening day.
Dish It Up will continue to host a series of great Saturday cooking classes throughout the market season to celebrate the wonderful foods brought to us by market farmers. For details, please visit their website or stop by the store.
If you live in Magnolia, your local food has arrived. And if you don’t, get on your bike and head over to the Magnolia Village for picnic goodies from the farmers market, some shopping nearby, and a nice ride to Discovery Park! The Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance, the organization force behind a few of the local markets, considers the Magnolia market to be a true agricultural market, offering a wide variety of delicious food and wine, with new and returning farmers and other vendors.
The Magnolia Farmers Market will be open every Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, June 18 through October 8, at West McGraw and 33rd Ave West. WIC and Senior farmers market coupons accepted, as well as SNAP (EBT/food stamps). Check out the Seattle Farmers Market website for more information.
