Opening day celebrations will be especially exciting this year, as the market starts up at its new location in front of Seattle Central Community College. Beginning with a market blessing by the inimitable Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence of the Abbey of St. Joan (who will lead a procession from the old market location to the new), farmers and shoppers will be serenaded by the lovely sounds of the Seattle Central Community College Jazz Ensemble. Shoppers will also enjoy a variety of free treats and free plant starts and seeds for the first 200 shoppers (and their moms), provided by Sunseed Farm.
Every Sunday through Dec. 18, the Broadway Farmers Market will feature a full selection of local, in-season fruits and vegetables from Puget Sound and Eastern Washington, farmstead cheeses, fresh baked goods, organic and pasture-raised meats, sustainably-caught seafood, honey, farm-fresh eggs, cut flowers, jams and preserves. In the spring, shoppers can find beautiful lettuces and braising greens, plant starts and other early harvest offerings. Cut flowers are available throughout the season. As the season progresses through summer and fall, displays will include all kinds of local berries, cherries, peaches, apricots, herbs, greens, summer and winter squashes, tomatoes, peppers, root vegetables, apples, pears, wild mushrooms, and more. The Market will also host live music and cooking demos throughout the season.
Everything at the farmers market is grown or produced in Washington State by local, sustainable farms and by local food businesses.
The Broadway Farmers Market accepts EBT/Quest cards (food stamps), as well as WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons.
